Expanding Solarbank 4 or STREAM 5000: Planning storage requirements and electric car charging times

How much additional capacity suits your everyday life? Check charging windows, household needs, and wallbox availability separately.

Expand storage or charge the electric car during the day?

For an electric car, it's not just the size of your home storage system that matters, but also when you can charge it. Additional kilowatt-hours can shift energy use to the evening. However, they do not automatically increase the charging power of the wallbox. Connecting the car to just any storage output is not recommended.

The Solarbank 4 E5000 Pro is about expanding a specific battery system. With STREAM, you also have to distinguish between main units and expansion batteries. EcoFlow extension details The large system capacity explicitly refers to multiple devices, not a single storage device.

What an expansion actually changes

A larger battery and a more powerful inverter address different needs. Capacity describes the amount of energy, while power output is the potential energy delivery per unit of time. Therefore, your planning should address two separate questions: How much energy can be stored, and what is the maximum power output of the specific installation?

For Anker is the BP5000 Instructions Important: This distinguishes between pure BP5000 configurations and combinations with BP2700 or BP1600. Mounting brackets and arrangement depend on this combination. Therefore, an existing older battery is no reason to skip the assembly diagram.

Calculation example, not a product test: You want to have 8 kWh available for the car and another 3 kWh for the household in the evening. That's a total of 11 kWh. A nominal 5 kWh storage system is not sufficient for this, even before taking losses and reserves into account. Whether expanding the storage capacity makes sense also depends on whether this amount of energy can actually be stored beforehand.

The Mini Power offer “Anker SOLIX Solarbank 4 E5000 Pro StorageThe package includes a "Smart Meter Gen 2" and the specified connection cable. A wallbox and additional BP5000 batteries are not included. Check these items separately to ensure you don't consider the meter, charging point, and storage expansion as a single package.

Compare three everyday situations before buying

For at least a few typical weekdays and weekends, note when the car is parked at home, when there is surplus solar energy, and what other household appliances are running at the same time. A simple annual consumption figure doesn't show this overlap.

Daily life First, document Decision
The car is parked at home during the day. Charging window and actual available PV surplus Plan direct charging and later storage needs separately.
The car won't be back until the evening. Daily charging requirements and other household consumption Select additional capacity based solely on the usable charging and discharging windows.
A car only needs energy occasionally. Frequency and seasonal differences Do not derive a major expansion solely from a rare peak load.

The wallbox requires its own approval.

The Anker-Model comparison The extension is called BP5000. This does not automatically mean it's compatible with every wallbox. Have the specific charging point, control system, and electrical integration checked together before you buy a storage kit solely because of a promised car charging function.

Three specific questions are needed for a reliable offer: Which charging point and which variant are planned? Who manages the available PV surplus? And what happens if the car, household, and storage system all demand energy simultaneously? A statement like "fits the brand" doesn't answer any of these questions.

Mini Power: Select the scope of delivery first, then the expansion

Our Storage finder This tool helps you compare storage offers. It does not replace a wallbox compatibility check or electrical circuit planning. Use the result to select a product for your inquiry, not as an installation permit.

This is how consumption data becomes a concrete request.

Record the car's daily charging energy and household energy needs separately. Mark days when the car isn't charged at your home charging point. This way, you compare a typical workday with a weekend, instead of basing your entire purchase on a rare exception.

Please also include the exact battery combination with your request. BP5000 assembly overviews Please explain why existing and additional modules need to be listed individually. Please provide a quote that itemizes the battery, mounting hardware, necessary modifications, and charging point testing separately.

Frequently asked questions

Should I design the storage system to cover the entire car battery?

Not just based on this number. For daily planning, the actual energy required for recharging and the available time slots are more meaningful than the maximum capacity of the vehicle battery.
