Fronius inverters and accessories for planning a photovoltaic system: This selection includes Symo GEN24 SC and GEN24 Plus SC, Verto and Verto Plus, as well as smart meters, current transformers, surge protection devices, backup switches, and Ohmpilot. Key factors are the required AC power, the design of the PV strings, a planned battery, and the metering concept. Fronius Symo GEN24 8.0 Plus SC – 8 kW hybrid inverter, 3-phase Suitable as a starting point for comparing the GEN24 Plus SC devices; larger systems will find suitable performance classes in the Verto family.
Anyone looking to buy a Fronius inverter should carefully compare the model numbers. The GEN24 Plus SC has an activated battery function. For the GEN24 SC without the Plus, using a battery later requires a suitable, separately available UP.storage activation module and approved system components. The Verto is a PV inverter without a battery connection, while the Verto Plus supports the connection of approved high-voltage batteries. Therefore, the power rating alone does not describe the range of functions or the requirements for the rest of the system.
Fronius accessories also differ in their function and scope of delivery. The Smart Meter TS 65A-3 measures directly up to 65 A; the Smart Meter IP uses suitable external current transformers. CT V 100 A, 250 A, and 400 A have different measuring ranges and should not be selected solely based on the housing image. Ohmpilot regulates suitable electric heating appliances with excess PV power. A surge protection retrofit kit or backup switch does not replace an inverter or a complete system design.
First, compare the grid connection, AC rated power, number of MPP trackers, permissible string currents, and voltage range. PV modules must be electrically compatible with the respective input. An additional battery requires explicit manufacturer approval for the inverter, battery model, and firmware. For installation, consider the housing dimensions, weight, prescribed clearances, and site conditions. The datasheets and installation instructions for the specific part number remain authoritative.
For consumption measurement and energy management, the measurement concept is defined at the grid connection point. Three-phase current transformer measurement requires three suitable current transformers; a CT offered individually is not a set of three. Select accessories only according to their specified compatibility. Electrical work, protection concept, and commissioning must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
What is the difference between GEN24 SC and GEN24 Plus SC?
The plus sign indicates that the battery function is activated. A GEN24 SC without the plus sign requires a corresponding UP.storage activation. Battery, activation, and additional system accessories must be checked separately.
Is a backup power supply possible with every device?
No. The backup power function and required components depend on the exact model and system configuration. PV Point and a complete backup power solution are different concepts. The respective product description and manufacturer's instructions specify the requirements.
Are the battery and smart meter included in the delivery?
Individual devices include only the scope of delivery explicitly listed on their product page. A pictured example system does not imply that batteries, measuring devices, cabling, or installation services are included.
Which current transformer is compatible with the smart meter?
For Smart Meter IP, an approved converter with a suitable output signal and measuring range is required. The TS 65A-3 is designed for direct measurement and does not require these external CT V converters.
